Support Group

At Transition Weight Loss, we believe community is an essential aspect for our program. Due to the success and popularity of our previous support group meetups, we’ve decided to make this aspect a permanent fixture. Enlisting family and friends in your weight loss journey can help keep you motivated and maintain your success, and our group meetings offer you the opportunity to meet with other patients and gain insight and support from each other.

Michelle Alsup, MSW, LADC 1 will be leading  the support group which is open to all active program and maintenance patients. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to meet with other patients on their weight loss journeys to discuss tips and strategies together. There will also be an open discussion regarding relationships with food and how we react mentally to the numbers on the scale. All patients are encouraged to attend.

Our program offers support and accountability. Getting support during your weight loss can make all the difference. Our group of medical professionals (a doctor, a nutritionist, a physician’s assistant and certified personal trainer) can help you meet all of your weight loss goals.

5 Ways to Help a Friend Lose Weight

1.Be their personal cheerleader.

Be supportive with encouraging words and compliments, but don’t weigh them down with advice. Make sure to notice and praise their efforts!

2. Support the person, not just the weight loss.

Weight gain is often the result of stress or medical conditions. Make sure you are supportive overall, and not just of the weight loss.

3. Celebrate accomplishments

Celebrating weight loss milestones can be the encouragement they need to achieve their ultimate goals.

4. Become active as well.

Suggest active activities you can do together. Healthy habits can benefit you both!

5. Don’t mess with their diet.

Do not try to police what they are eating, or offer judgmental comments about their diet choices. Be supportive of them with your actions and words!
