How to Maintain Your Weight Loss

Maintaining weight loss can be even harder than losing weight. Watching caloric intake is a crucial aspect of weight maintenance, but what else can you do to maintain your success?

1. Eat High Protein and High Fiber Foods

Even though you are no longer looking to lose weight, you still need to watch your diet and caloric intake. Eating foods with lots of protein and fiber can help you feel full longer. Fiber can help regulate blood sugar and helps clean your colon. You can find it in healthy foods such as beans, fruits and vegetables. Protein is essential for things such as cell repair and creation. Protein can be found in many foods, a few of them being eggs, meat, yogurt, broccoli and oats.

2. Track Your Weight

In order to make sure you haven’t gained or lost any more weight you should occasionally weigh yourself and, if possible, check your body composition. There are several apps that can easily help you track your weight. While you weight can fluctuate as you build muscle from exercise, and a small amount of weight gain or loss can generally be expected, tracking your weight can help you maintain your progress.

3. Prioritize Exercise

If you start slow and set reasonable goals, you’ll be able to endure a regular exercise routine. Find a class you enjoy, take a walk every day with a partner, or commit to working out at a specific time every day. Exercise can increase energy, reduce stress, help you sleep better, and improve your mood in addition to the weight loss benefits. Our physician’s assistant, Joe Zucchi, who is also a certified personal trainer, can provide personalized workout programs.

4. Find Support

One of the most crucial parts of weight loss and maintaining weight loss is community support. Whether it is your friends or family, allow others to support you on your journey toward a healthy lifestyle. Take exercise classes or go for walks and runs together. Cook healthy meals together and encourage other healthy habits. Our program also offers a support group where you can meet and speak with other people on their weight loss journey about the challenges you are facing.
