Vitamins for Weight Loss

Are your vitamin deficiencies hindering your weight loss? Does taking certain supplements help you lose weight? Our patients often have many questions about nutrition and weight loss. Our dietitian, Cheryl Francis, can make sure you are getting all of the proper nutrition you need for your health. In addition, we also monitor your bloodwork to make sure you are getting essential vitamins and nutrients. So, what vitamins can help you lose weight?

B Vitamins:

The B Vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folate, and cobalamin are essential for your metabolism. They help you metabolize fat, protein and carbs as well as convert carbs into energy.

Magnesium

Magnesium is another mineral essential for energy. It helps with the function of your nervous system, regulating your blood pressure, and controlling your blood sugar levels.  Conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, and celiac disease can lead to a deficiency in magnesium.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is essential for your immune system. In addition, its effect on depression has also been found to be beneficial for weight loss. People who do not get adequate amounts of vitamin D from the sun will definitely need to use supplements in order to maintain adequate levels.

Iron

Iron helps carry oxygen to all of your cells and is a crucial vitamin that can impact your energy levels. Those with low iron can even develop a type of anemia, which can hinder athletic performance. Eating iron rich foods (such as meat) with vitamin C can help you absorb iron, as supplements tend to cause stomach issues.
